Meikka was born Margaret Kempell on 14th May 1931 in Hartley Wintney, Farnborough. and she lived with her father, William Kempell, her mother, Jill, and her brother and sister. Her brother, Robbie, was a year older than her and she was very close to him. He was adored by his parents and became an engineer. He married her best friend, Eileen, and they had a family of 4 boys. He died about 20 years ago and is still survived by his wife.

Meikka also had a younger sister, Vivien, who currently lives in Farnborough. She has a large family - 6 children - most of whom live in Bath - except for her youngest, Alex, who lives with her and his own family and helps with her daily care, and her son, Russell, in San Francisco, USA.

Meikka moved with her family to Cambridge at the beginning of WW2 - although her father, Bill, had to stay in Farnborough as he was an aircraft engineer and worked at the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) Farnborough, designing aircraft during the war. Sadly, he didn't re-join the family after the war, and her parents divorced.

After school, where she matriculated with good Higher Certs, she changed her name to Margot, and went down to London to train as a nurse at Guy's Hospital. Within a year she met Lew Worsfold, who was a patient recovering from 3 years of treatment for TB and malaria and was in his final stages of convalescence. They fell in love and got married on 26th June 1952 - soon after she turned 21yrs old. Meikka was now known as Margot Worsfold!

A year later, her daughter Nicola (Nikki) arrived on 25th Sept 1953. After leaving hospital, and getting married, Lew had studied personnel management and by 1953/4, he got a good position in British European Airways (later BA) and they moved to Uxbridge and their first house where in 1956, a son was born, Mark. Later, by 1959, they moved to Laleham, Middx.

By then, Meikka was trying out various business ideas and started with sewing - setting up a business of making stuffed toys, then children's clothes. They moved to Solihull in 1965, where Lew had promotion into British Gas (West Midlands). Meikka was able to change her interests after starting an evening class with pottery, and then studied her Pre-diploma course in Ceramics in 1968, before another move back to Middx in 1969.
