Meikka set up and ran her wholefood shop for many years, developing the bakery side and bringing in more organic foods. She didn't like Wisbech that much, but she enjoyed meeting people in her shop and made a few friends. Her son, Marc, got married to Jeanne and they had a son, Miles, in 1988. Nikki married Nigel in 1992 and they had a son, Alex, in 1993. Meikka enjoyed her grandchildren, although she didn't see them that much as she was unable to travel away from the shop. Meikka had a much-loved dog - a Weimaraner, called Milo. He died in 2003 and she was devastated.

Meikka worked in her shop into her 70s but eventually at 74yrs old, she felt that she needed to stop. She wanted to be near her family and had the choice of Cirencester with Nikki or Reading with Marc. She loved Cirencester, so so Nikki helped her with selling her home, moving her into her annex until Meikka could find a new house, and then with moving in and setting up her home  Her house was on the outskirts of Cirencester just up the road from Nikki and family.
